ingrid laurel ♥ our gentle girl

On the morning of July 3rd, our sweet Ingrid Laurel passed away. The week leading up to that day was very long, stressful, and overwhelming due to her falling ill on the Sunday before. She received lots of treatment and care from her vet, but in the end, her little kitty body just had so much going on that she was getting worse. It broke our hearts to see her that way.

As with all our past and present pets, Ingrid was a rescue baby. We found each other 7.5 years ago. As a feral, her life was quite rough on the streets. We are so grateful that she found us and that we could give her love and comfort and a family that every animal deserves. She learned to trust us, and when she did, she became a total family cat…even sleeping with us and wanting to be with “her humans” all the time. She gave us so much love, laughter, and happiness. She was the sweetest, most gentle of souls, with a personality to match.

This loss hits us hard…like, very hard. Our pets, for us, are family members. They have been and are our little circle of dearest loved ones. While we have been incredibly hurt, in ways too hard to share publicly, by people on and off my whole life, our pets have become that close circle of family for us. Never hurting us, never ridiculing us, never abusing us. But giving us a family, bringing abundant love to our home, and making us laugh like crazy, because dogs and cats are really hilarious creatures.

I’m thankful Ingrid was our girl, for the years we had together, for her sweet and gentle spirit that filled our home. My heart is breaking though; this loss hits hard. I hurt for us and for our other kitties, as they’re all as thick as thieves. I’m grateful for her compassionate vet who put her all into our baby that week. It was a hard day losing her, but I’m also just really thankful for our girl.

She loved cozy places and looking out the window and chirping at the birds and squirrels. She loved her fur siblings and her humans, too. She was a foodie and had the sweetest voice. She was fluffy and cute and had blue-green eyes. She was a huge part in making our house a home...and it feels so strange without her here, in all her usual places, playing with her favorite toys, laying on her favorite blanket.

Special doesn't even begin to describe her.

Our sweet Ingrid, our gentle girl...
always and forever...
ours.

I realized they helped to heal my soul.”
