Mysteries, Yes
by Mary Oliver
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Truly, we live with mysteries too marvelous
to be understood.
How grass can be nourishing in the
mouths of the lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever
in allegiance with gravity
while we ourselves dream of rising.
How two hands touch and the bonds will
never be broken. How people come, from delight or the
scars of damage,
to the comfort of a poem.
Let me keep my distance, always, from those
who think they have the answers.
Let me keep company always with those who say
“Look!” and laugh in astonishment,
and bow their heads.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Dear readers,
I hope this poem sparks as much delight for you as it did me.
I read it last week in my poetry book, and I must tell you...
I was nothing short of obsessed with it from the moment I first read it!
I had to mark it with extra hearts and added some special personal notes
on the page it was on, too.
I just think it's so special...and I hope you do, too.
May your week be filled with countless moments where you
"laugh in astonishment" at the wonder and beauty of Life...
at the "mysteries too marvelous to be understood".
(I hope that for me, too!)
Until next time...
