simple ideas to make your home beautiful

Some ideas for adding beauty to your home...

♥ Add some sweetly scented candles to different rooms of your home. Scents of linen, flowers, baked goods, herbs, and more add a lovely fragrance to a home. I personally love to use seasonal candles...for example: apple pumpkin in the autumn, honeysuckle in the spring and summer and mulled cider in the winter.

♥ Play soft music in the background of your days. It adds such a peaceful touch as you go about the day. Or, if you're like me you may like to kick things up a bit and play some toe-tapping Celtic tunes. Whatever you fancy!

♥ A vase of fresh flowers will add a bit of color and cheer for you and your family (and guests) to enjoy. Not to mention, they smell heavenly!

♥ Bring color into your home in as many ways you can. Color brings happy, cheery vibes. It makes things unique and special. It encourages creativity and imagination. It adds warmth and comfort. It inspires and brings peace. Colorless living is a sad state. Why so many people insist on living without color...in their homes, wardrobe, etc....is beyond me. Color is dying out because of popular trends, such as minimalism, "intentional" or "mindful" living, and so on. And we sit here and wonder why so many people are on anti-depressants...they are literally removing all beauty from their lives. So add color!

♥ Have a tea/coffee/hot cocoa corner in your kitchen. You can display your favorite teacups, mugs, kettles and a variety of teas, coffee and hot chocolate to enjoy. We have found a couple cute tins at bargain prices that also add a cute touch.

♥ Add a few potted plants and herbs to your kitchen, or even to other rooms of your home. Not only are they pretty, you can actually use some of them to cook with or in home remedies.

♥ Make your bed. Sounds simple enough, right? It truly does add a sense of calm and peace to a bedroom. It doesn't have to be rigid. I simply just pull my comforter and blankets up. Fluff the pillows and toss on a throw blanket. Simple, yet incredibly inviting!

♥ Eat dinner at the dining table. I'm a firm believer in family dinners. The benefits are innumerable, and even statistics show the positive effects of eating together as a family. There are too many memories to be made and laughs to be had that you can't afford to miss out! You may even find yourself lingering around the table long after the last plate has been put in the sink.....chatting with loved ones is such a blessing!

♥ Make your entry way welcoming. Even if you don't have an official "entry way", go to the door that you typically use when entering your home. Keep it welcoming and add some nice touches that invite you home as you walk in.

♥ Aprons are such an old-fashioned thing, but I love them. I not only love using them whilst I'm cooking, I love using them as a decoration. Keep a few hanging up in your kitchen. When you're not wearing them, they add a beautiful touch to your kitchen. Antique shops are a great place to find vintage beauties!

♥ Bake homemade bread, scones or cookies, and set them out on the counter. The sweet scent wafting through your home will draw others to the kitchen which can lead to some great chats and laughter. Anything homemade just says "home"!

♥ Make a stovetop potpourri and keep it simmering on the stovetop all day (while you're home, of course). You can also keep this in the crockpot on low all day. There are many different recipes and lots of them are great for different seasons. One of my personal favorites for the colder months is to simply fill a small saucepan with water. Add a few cinnamon sticks or some ground cinnamon and then a good amount of vanilla extract. (Add some orange slices if you have them.) Let it simmer all day, adding water as needed. Your home will smell divine!

♥ Display cookbooks on a shelf in your kitchen or on a rack on the countertop. They add a nice decoration and they're right there to use as well.

♥ Hang a wreath on your front door. I love wreaths and they automatically say, "Welcome...come on in and stay awhile" to me. You can buy them at the store, or if you want you can make some using your own ideas.

♥ Having a selection of blankets or quilts is a wonderful touch to your family or living room. They are beautiful as well as practical.

♥ Family pictures are a must in any home. Showing you love the ones you share your home with is simple when you display favorite family memories, milestones and traditions through photographs.

♥ Make your dinner table a place of beauty. Add a pretty centerpiece, nice runner or tablecloth, and don't be afraid to go all out for your family by using your best plates and silverware sometimes. They are the most precious people you will ever serve a meal to.

♥ Window boxes are something that I simply adore. I love the beauty and simplicity they add to a typically bare space. Not only do they add beauty to the outside of your home, but you get to enjoy their loveliness inside as well.

♥ Curb appeal is one that you may not think about right off the bat. Adding some nice hanging baskets, potted plants, flowers in a bed, garden decorations, rocking chairs, a hanging swing, and a pretty wreath or hanging decorations can add a lot to the outside of your home. I love when porches feel like an extension of the home...like an outdoor living room. I've seen some done up really cute. I've even seen several homes have pretty lamps on small tables on their front porches. I absolutely adore that! But even if you don't have a porch, you can very much still make a welcoming area outdoors. And since the outside is the first thing anyone sees of your home, it should say "welcome" too.

♥ A bowl of fresh fruit and veggies adds a brightness and color to your kitchen.

♥ Allow lots of natural light in your home. I am a lover of big windows and having natural light stream into my home. It just makes you happy! Even if it's raining outside or gloomy, keep those blinds and curtains open. Just seeing nature outside, even if it is cloudy or grey, is good for your soul.
